LOMA VISTA FARM’S SUMMER PROGRAM - SUMMER FUN ON THE FARM 2008

The excitement of Summer is here! The Friends of Loma Vista Farm (FLVF) is looking forward to another successful year with the Summer School program "Summer Fun on the Farm". This Summer Fun on the Farm program is just one of many programs available to the children in the Vallejo and surrounding communities. Groups of children and adults are encouraged to schedule visits to the Farm and learn more about all that is being done in the name of healthy living, sustainable agriculture and educational growth and development.

Loma Vista Farm is an outdoor classroom spread across five acres that provides hands-on educational activities involving plants and animals for children of all ages and abilities, increasing their knowledge of nature and nutrition while enhancing academic learning, eco-literacy and psychosocial development. This year’s Summer program includes:

Keeping a Farm Journal

Feeding & Caring for the Animals

Working in the Garden

Working with Sheep’s Wool

Playing Farm Games

Singing Farm Songs

Harvesting Garden Vegetables

Cooking Farm Food

And much, much more!

The “Summer Fun on the Farm” program runs Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. Classes are offered weekly the month of July. Registration is open through July 25, 2008! Completed K-5 grades are eligible. Registration forms and scholarship applications will be available at your school office starting in the month of May or at www.lomavistafarm.org.  The 2008 program's registration fee is set at $110 per child (per week).  Scholarships are available on a first come first serve basis for $80 per child (to be applied toward the $110 registration fee).  The remaining $30 fee will need to be covered at time of registration.

Last year, “Summer Fun on the Farm”, the summer school day camp program was in its 2nd year for FLVF. This year the program has grown and evolved based on last year's success.

Three years ago the "Summer Fun on the Farm", the summer school day camp program was cancelled at the last minute. Public funding was lost and the FLVF did not have enough time to organize private funding. Back then, the children lost an invaluable learning opportunity. Again this year, the Friends of Loma Vista Farm promised that there would be a summer program on the Farm for a third year in a row. More importantly, even though there must be a fee, FLVF promised that financial help will be provided to as many students as possible.  In the neighboring school, Loma Vista Elementary, a full two-thirds of the children qualify for free lunches due to family finances.

In an effort to raise the money, FLVF recently launched a fundraising campaign, appealing to the community for support. The goal of providing a place for every child who cannot afford the $110 fee is an ambitious one. If 65% of the children apply for scholarship aid, as expected, the cost will be more than $14,000. The FLVF Board of Directors is committed to making the “Summer Fun on the Farm” program available to all.  FLVF will designate funds to provide scholarships for local children that may not be able to afford to attend Summer Fun at the Farm at the full price due to lack of funds.  Scholarships will be available on a first come first serve basis.  Unfortunately available scholarship funds are not unlimited.  Early registration and submission of scholarship applications is strongly encouraged.
