Our friends are happy to meet you. We invite you to meet the farm animals who make up the residence and educational pool at Loma Vista Farm. Over 100 farm animals live at Loma Vista Farm ranging from giant horses to tiny baby chicks. Loma Vista Farm has many functional farm buildings which our animals call their homes.

Since 1974, Loma Vista Farm has three decades of solid experience making a difference in Vallejo and the surrounding area by providing school children with experiential learning opportunities to bolster academic skills in reading, writing, math, social science, language arts, science and health in a farm-based setting. Animals provide education in many ways. Animals help teach us a thing or two about:

  • The Circle of Life
  • Caring for others and friendship
  • Safe and healthy eating
  • Balanced diets for animals as well as people
  • Friendly and family values
  • Diversity and living in harmony with other animals
  • Exercise and fitness
  • The basics in elementary education: counting, spelling, language, scents, sounds

At Loma Vista Farm and VCUSD (Vallejo City Unified School District) we take great pride in the care we provide our farm animals. Our farm animals are happy, healthy, and loved! Visitors and caretakers alike, see the incredible joy in our friends eyes as they walk around the farm during classes and for visits.

Annually, our farm friends greet over 21,000 visitors to Loma Vista Farm. Scroll down to meet our local farm animal friends!

Babydoll Ram (un-named for now!)

Unnamed for now, the Babydoll ram is 7 months old. Once the children name him we'll quickly add his new name to this page. The Babydoll ram is very photo shy, every time Bev went to take a photo of little "no name" he turned his beautiful face away. His little face looks almost like that of a teddy bear...he's adorable!!!". The Babydoll ram was adopted from Windswept Ranch, a petting zoo in Tehachapi, California, which actively works to find good homes for needy farm animals.

Curly

Curly, is a 8 year old Alpaca . Curly is quite the draw with farm visitors and classes. Don't you want to just run up and hug Curly! Curly was adopted from Windswept Ranch, a petting zoo in Tehachapi, California, which actively works to find good homes for needy farm animals.

Lily

Lily is a Alpine cross goat and is adjusting nicely with our Pygmy herd. Lily is 8 years old. Lily is already a star after being pictured in the Vallejo Times Herald Newspaper on November 6, 2007. Lily was adopted from Windswept Ranch, a petting zoo in Tehachapi, California, which actively works to find good homes for needy farm animals.

Keebler & Oreo

Keebler and Oreo are both Dutch Belted heifers. They were adopted from Windswept Ranch, October 2007. Keebler and Oreo are approximately 5 years of age and are rescue animals, which makes them all the more special. Oreo has a white belt almost completely around her and Keebler has the horns and just a little white. Both are heifers (girls).

ALBERT

Albert is a Quarter Horse/Appaloosa. Albert is approximately 30 years old and has lived at Loma Vista Farm since 1986. He just loves the attention of visitors to the farm. Albert is always eager to greet the visiting children who are awed and intrigued by his size and personality. Albert is known to slobber and spit on visitors as a sign of his happiness.

BOBBY K

Bobby K is a miniature horse who is 11 years old. Bobby K's best friend on the farm is Albert. Bobby K and Albert are buds as they roam their pens. Oddly enough, Bobby K thinks he's as big as Albert. They are often seen running and playing together through the fence separating their paddocks which often results in one of them losing their halter. But they never tell on each other! Bobby K also loves to hang his head through the fence so the little children can pet him and get their photos taken with him.

GYPSY
Gypsy, a 27 year old Welsh/Cobb Pony is one of the elders on the farm.  We all look up to Gypsy.  Even the farm staff has been seen secretly seeking advice from Gypsy from time to time through the years!   Gypsy is wise and full of knowledge he's gained through the years.  Gypsy loves to "nicker".  He loves being visited by the children and just loves the attention he gets from them.  Gypsy and Bobby K enjoy a much quieter relationship and take quiet naps together next to each other in the early morning hours.

MOOZIE
Moozie is a robotic cow, strong, and durable. Moozie came to Loma Vista Farm back in 2002. Rita LeRoy was responsible for having Moozie come to the Farm. She'd read a Moozie book she picked up from the local library. Rita emailed Ted about the possibility of Moozie coming to Loma Vista Farm in Vallejo, CA. Ted Dreier, Executive Director of the Children's Kindness Network (CKN) and the creator of Moozie was delighted to learn more about Vallejo City Unified School District and Loma Vista Farm. CKN obtained a significant gift from Linda Clem, in honor of her parents, Tom and Ruth Graham, and thus Loma Vista Farm got a Moozie free of charge. Ted loves the farm and is very pleased that Moozie is here. Loma Vista Farm is home of the only Moozie in California.

Moozie comes with a series of pre-programmed messages and songs that coordinate with her life-like movements. From a keypad, her operator can select the desired program. (Kindness presentations are age-appropriate and can be tailored to fit Moozie’s surroundings—a school or a church or a hospital, for example.) Programs can take 20 to 35 minutes, depending on the amount of discussion the leader wishes to include beyond the scope of the programmed message.

Moozie, with fence, requires a 7 x 7-foot stall space. She quickly settled into her new residence at Loma Vista Farm. Moozie is a huge favorite of visiting field trips, kids of all ages, and especially teachers. Moozie's home website can be found at www.moozie.com
DEANNA

Clyde's favorite treats are Blue Dog Bakery peanut butter & molasses Natural Low Fat Dog Treats.
